Most of you who follow me, know, follow and love Shannon.
If you don't, here she is:
Yes, that would the Shannon from Fox Hollow Cottage that donated her lovely locks to Locks of Love earlier this year.
Shannon, always loving, kind, and generous
has now started an
auction for the victims of the movie theatre shooting
that has captivated and horrified Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00645081308351987383noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2282068901528520225.post-92041056141476453812012-07-16T10:52:00.002-05:002012-07-17T09:12:21.050-05:00Graphite White-Waxed Dresser
One of the pieces that has had a lot of interest over at
The Changing Season is the
ASCP Graphite Dresser.
Would you believe me if I said that this piece was totally not planned?
I promise.
It wasn't.
I started out with this:
It shows up looking like pine in the picture, but it was really painted brown.
But, I loved the detailing and the hardware.

I've gotten a lot of questions over the last couple of months about auctions.
How to find them...
How to know when and where
they're happening....
So, I decided to throw together a little series about auctions.
How to find them and what to do (and what not to do)
when you're there.

I always like to give credit where credit is due.
Since yesterday's blog didn't allow for it,
I wanted to take the time to tell you where I got the idea for my
Patriotic Scrap Fabric Wreath.
Last week, Fox Hollow Cottage hosted a Pool Noodle Link Party and one of my absolute favorite link-ups was this awesome wreath from The House at Bluebird Lane.

Some of you might know that I come from a long line of veterans.
My Dad's father was a Marine stationed at Pearl Harbor during that infamous day on December 7th, 1941. My grandmother, cowering in a bomb shelter, was pregnant with twins.
She lost them both.
My Momma's father was at Normandy.
My uncle, a Chinook pilot in Vietnam.

Good morning, y'all!
Whew! What a crazy exciting couple of days!
When God moves...
He moves BIG!
(More on that at a later today. Keep an eye on my FB page!)
But we know this, right?
So... I left you on FB on Wednesday with the teaser that my afternoon had gotten A LOT more exciting and that Scott was watching out for me, as usual.
And yes he did!

I NEVER get cranky.

Wednesday night, Scott and I hit another local auction.
Things were going so ridiculously high, we just sat there shaking our heads.
But, we were able to bring home a few goodies, mostly stuff we're going to keep.
Without further ado, more pictures, less talking. ;)
(You'll have to excuse the quality, they're in Scott's parent's barn, so it was hard to get quality pictures of Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00645081308351987383noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2282068901528520225.post-700889861729478192012-06-14T07:00:00.000-05:002012-06-14T07:00:20.484-05:00Scott's Handmade Wall Cabinet - A Makeover
Yesterday on Facebook, I mentioned that Scott has untapped talent at woodworking.
When we were dating, while he was in the Marine Corps (OOH-RAH!), he would sometimes take side jobs making custom furniture for people.
Occasionally, he would make something just because.
And he upcycled before it was cool.
This wood cabinet was made from salvaged wood from a couch.

I'm gettin' back to my shabby country roots with this one, y'all.
Unfortunately...
Somehow...
I forgot to take a before picture.
Duh.
How I did that, I have no clue, since I usually snaps pics during the unloading process.
But I'm sure y'all will have no problem imagining a blah brown table.
Typical 1990s country decor.
Did that help your imagination any?
LOL

Okay... I admit it.
I have a pool noodle issue.
Totally addicted.
So simple.
So quick.
So easy.
My kind of craft.
Instant GrA-tIf-Fi-Ca-TiOn.
I've made two more.
And I have two more waiting for me.

No crafts today.
No furniture reveals.
No room makeovers.
Because there is only one thing that is important today.
You see, eighteen years ago, I was blessed with the first of my six children.
I have to admit I was teary-eyed yesterday and I've been having
little episodes of downright sobbing today.
My baby girl is today, a young woman.
And I'm not quite Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00645081308351987383noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2282068901528520225.post-19068637969521717772012-06-01T12:24:00.000-05:002012-07-06T14:10:21.295-05:00Antique Oak Dresser {Reveal}
About a month ago, Scott won this beautiful oak dresser for me at a local auction.
I had a really hard time trying to decide if I wanted to paint it or not.
It was simply gorgeous, just as it was.
So, I decided to have the best of both worlds.
I would paint part of it with ASCP "Old White" and add AS Dark Wax to really make those beautiful details stand out...
and I Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00645081308351987383noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2282068901528520225.post-49119825550042358672012-05-29T09:42:00.003-05:002012-05-29T09:44:01.987-05:00Pool Noodles & Burlap
I've hopped on the Pool Noodle Wreath bandwagon.
What a fantastic idea!
And since I've really gotten away from doing crafts and mainly have just been working on furniture,
this simple and easy craft was an awesome instant gratification pick-me-up.
Just the way I like it.
Couple of hours.
Done.

The past few days I've been working out in our yard.
Believe me, yard work isn't my forte.
I usually leave that up to Scott.
But its just been missing that little piece of femininity.
Know what I mean?
So last week, I got to work.
As a little reminder, this is what I started with:
Pretty blah, eh?
Yeah.
I know.
Believe me, when I started out I Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00645081308351987383noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2282068901528520225.post-28163083470338776312012-05-24T10:53:00.000-05:002012-05-24T10:56:17.747-05:00Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty (kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty, and kitty)!
Lots of excitement in our house last night and this morning!
The much anticipated arrivals of kittens occurred!
Not quite a year ago, we got sister kitties,
Miss Marley and Lucy-Kitty from an ad on Craigslist.
We knew they were both female and despite popular opinion to the contrary,
we decided to let them each have a litter before we had them spayed.

Sometimes, ya gotta take a break.
Do something a little different.
Walk away from the pressure.
(Otherwise known as the growing heap of furniture in my shop.)
So yesterday, I did.
I've been working the past few weeks on
either the workshop, pieces to sell, or custom pieces.
I finished up the custom pieces
