Antique Oak Dresser {Reveal}

About a month ago, Scott won this beautiful oak dresser for me at a local auction.

I had a really hard time trying to decide if I wanted to paint it or not.
It was simply gorgeous, just as it was.

So, I decided to have the best of both worlds.

I would paint part of it with ASCP "Old White" and add AS Dark Wax to really make those beautiful details stand out...

and I would leave the top, drawers, and sides "as is" to not insult the integrity of the fabulous wood grain.

I think I'm in love.

All it took was a little Old English Oil rubbed into the original wood, to bring it back to life.

And the original hardware painted and waxed the same
was too awesome not to use.

I think of all the pieces I've done, that this is by far my favorite.

Too bad the "Furniture Nazi"
(AKA Scott),
is holding me to my promise to sell it.  ;)

At least he keeps me focused on my dreams and goals, right?

Otherwise, I would have a house full of really awesome furniture.

And that would be simply horrible, right?

LOL

So, with a heavy heart... (HA HA HA)

I bought one just exactly like this from a yard sale for ....... $5.00. NO joke, for only $5.00. They ask $10 and I got them down to $5.00. I had bought the bed that matched it from them earlier for again, $5.00. I am leaving mine as is, but have thought about painting it white, and seeing this pic, I like the way you have done it.

What a steal! Lucky you! Believe me when I say we paid A LOT more than that for this piece. A. LOT. :)

Nice compromise, part painted & part woodgrain. Now you need to work out compromise with your DH. Like sell this one & impress him with the $$ you can make, but the next one you find & redo gets to stay in the fam instead of adopted.

Must admit I was nervous! I often don't like makeovers of antique furniture as they lose their charm and integrity, but you gave this one respect! You did a great job! Pity I can't afford the shipping to Australia, I'd buy it and love it for you!
