Scott's Handmade Wall Cabinet - A Makeover

Yesterday on Facebook, I mentioned that Scott has untapped talent at woodworking.

When we were dating, while he was in the Marine Corps (OOH-RAH!), he would sometimes take side jobs making custom furniture for people.

Occasionally, he would make something just because.

And he upcycled before it was cool.

This wood cabinet was made from salvaged wood from a couch.

No kidding!

Obviously, it has seen better days.

One of the pieces of glass broke during our move out to Iowa, so its been sitting in our attic ever since.
And it lost a shelf in the process.

Poor thing!

I couldn't stand the thought of something he made just moldering in the attic, so I decided to give it the Laura treatment, so we could hang it in our living room.

An although it was beautiful as it was before,
it definitely is more "me" now.

I tried a new AS painting technique with this one and I have to admit, I really liked it.

You'll probably see more of this style in the future.

I always try out the new stuff on our stuff, so its not a big deal if I ruin it.  ;)

Too bad, it doesn't quite show up as well in the pictures.

But, it definitely gives it more depth.

And I love the contrast of the red knobs.

I actually bought these for a custom job I'm doing, but couldn't resist adding them to this cabinet.

Guess that means another trip to HL for more.  ;)

I'm not quite sure what Scott thinks about it.

He said something along the lines of,
"That's what my cabinet looks like now???"

Hmmmm....

I'm sure it'll grow on him.

I think?

XO,
