Biggest Time Suck EVER!

WOW!  Its amazing what you can get done when you don't have the internet to distract you!

Shortly after I posted my last blog, I knocked a bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper (THE drink, peeps!) off my desk and guess where it landed?  Yep.  That's right.  Right on top of my router.  KLUTZ!  I called myself six kinds of stupid and promptly stuck it into a bag of rice hoping that would suck the moisture out.  Nope.  Sure didn't.  Does that even really work?  So, we were without internet for two solid days until I could find the time to go buy a new router from our telephone company.  The boys on the otherhand are super-excited because we will now have wireless internet, which they can use for their iPads.  I guess its about time I got with the times, huh?

But wow, oh wow, how much stuff did I get done!  All five of the pieces I've been working on have now had 2 coats of primer and I'll be ready to put the color on tomorrow!  YIPPEE!  Technically, they're ready tonight, but life intrudes once again and we're off to the first home game of the varsity football season.

Let's go Go-Hawks!

I even amazed myself at how much I accomplished.  I was beginning to think I had ADD, since it was taking me so long to knuckle down and accomplish anything.  In fact, I'm seriously considering having the hubs take the router with him when he leaves in the mornings, so I can get stuff accomplished.  Can we say, "Biggest time-suck ever!"  I never really realized how much time that looking at other people's blogs and coveting their re-dos has cost me!  But what I really found interesting is that I wasn't suffering from Facebook withdrawals, but blog withdrawals!  I was wondering what all the bloggers I follow had been up to!  However, I'm totally limiting myself to 1 hour per day in the blogosphere.  Let's see what I can get done then!

So, here's what I got up to the last couple of days...

My solution for the end tables that didn't seem to want to be stripped...  I just sanded the heck out of them.  Although even then, the flat areas didn't seem to want to give up their stain and varnish.  Answer to that?  Prime the heck out of it too!  Three coats before it stopped bleeding through.  And why in the world didn't I use the electric sander that the hubs dug out of the barn for me 2 weeks ago is beyond me.  I love sanding now!  Its fun!

One coat of primer...

Three coats of primer...

And here's the rocking chair!  OMG.  She is looking FANTASTIC!  I can't wait to give this beauty some color, distressing, and waxing!

I am particularly proud of the job I did on the veneer.  SUH-WEET!  No one will ever be able to tell that a huge chunk was missing off the back!

And here's the boys' nightstands lined up and ready for some black paint:

And there's one more reason I need to light a fire under this booty...

The hubs has announced the walls in the diva's room as cured as they'll ever be.  Sunday is calling for perfect painting weather and we're going to get our primer on!  WOO-HOO!  So, I've got to clear her room of all the junk that I've accumulated to work on furniture. Now, we'll have to actually get the barn cleaned out so I can use it for a workshop!  Who ever thought I would use "I can use" and "workshop" in the same sentence????

I cannot wait to post pictures of all the completed furniture and the diva's room!  Lord willing, it'll be done by Monday evening.  Sounds like Labor Day is going to be all about laboring here at Little Big House on the Prairie and I'm looking forward to every minute of it!

It's a No-Go.

It's a No-Go for the Sugarland Concert tonight.  Evidently, part of a stage collapsed in between their opening and main act last night at the Indiana State Fair, killing 4 people and injuring dozens more.  So, they've cancelled their concert tonight here, as they well should.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and families of those injured in last night's accident.

We bought the tickets from someone off Craigslist, which begs the question...  How do we get refunded the $166.00 that we paid for the tickets if they don't reschedule the concert?  What a conundrum.  I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.  Hopefully we won't have to eat the money.

So...  Since we decided to stay home because the hubs has hay down that might be able to be baled today, I've got an entire day to do lots of stuff.

What should I do first?

Laundry

Dishes

Dust

Vacuum

Clean out the back porch.

Clean out the garage.

Hmmmmmm....  Plenty to do.

For now, I'm just enjoying the silence of everyone being asleep.

Isn't this time before all the children and the hubs wake up absolutely glorious?????

I should do this more often.

But I'm one of those people that sleeps
until the last possible second and then I rush around frantically.

Do you do that too?

Oh!  I didn't tell y'all about this...

I've been searching for the last month for relatively cheap twin mattresses, box springs, and bed frames for the boys' room.  Currently we have a full bed and a set of bunk beds in there.  Well, for some reason, they despise the bunk bed, won't sleep on it, and all of them piggy pile onto the full bed.  So, I've decided I would get four twin beds for their room.  Luckily the room is big enough to fit all of them in there, plus their dressers and such.

Anyhoo...  I finally find this guy selling two twin mattresses with the box springs and bed frames for $150.00 on Craigslist.  Both had been used in a guest room and one had only been slept on 3x.  SCORE!!!

Gotta love craigslist and all the great finds!

So, I excitedly contact him and ask him if he'll take $125.00 for both.  He agrees.  And I am super stoked!  He then tells me to contact him between the hours of 1:30 - 3:45 p.m. the next day.  Well, that just happened to be the day that I was shopping at Goodwill and my cell phone went dead while I was in W'loo.  Unbeknowst to me, the hubs had taken the charger out of my car to charge his phone, so I was stuck 45 minutes from home with no cell phone and wasn't able to call him.  I called him immediately when I got home, which was around 6:00.  I left a message and then sent him an e-mail as well, telling him what had happened, but that I was still VERY interested in purchasing the sets and would like to set up a time to come get them.  Can you believe that he had re-listed the mattresses on Craigslist at 1:51 p.m. for $275.00???!!!  Whoo-boy that made me hot! I hope no one buys them.  I hope the Craigslist god's frown down upon him and he doesn't get ONE.  SINGLE.  PHONE CALL.  That is just....  PLAIN.  WRONG.  I'm so disappointed.

Now, I have to start
searching all over again.
:(

But while I do, I have plenty to keep me busy...

These are the end tables from our bedroom.  I inherited them from my Daddy, when he passed away.  He bought them at one of those unfinished furniture stores and then stained them himself.  Unfortunately, I despise that orangy-red color.  I'm not sure what color he was going for, but this ain't working for me.  So, the boys will get these in their room.  I haven't decided whether I'm going to paint them black or gold...  I'm afraid it'll be too much black with all the black furniture and the bottom of the walls being black, as well.  Heck, I might even paint them white to match the trim in their room.  And since I've decided to use old barn doors for their headboards and those are white, I may just go with white.

What do you think I should do?
