Office Makeover Madness: Part 1

Y'all....  I am tired.  I am sore.  I'm slightly frustrated.  My house looks like a tornado hit.  Ugh.

So....

Just a little reminder with what I started with:

Yeah.  Not my finest moment.

So Friday, I decided to take the challenge from Lovely Crafty Home to get my crap together.  Rachael is hosting this...

Despite having started on the stairway, I decided that I couldn't live another minute with the east and north walls of the office looking like that.  (Well, and Scott couldn't either judging by all his comments.  :P)  So the stairs got put on the back burner AGAIN and I stopped one project and started another one AGAIN.  But its great because I have a deadline.  By the end of January.  And I've got approximately 21 days to get 'er done.  And to sweeten the deal , she's giving away a $15 Starbucks gift card to the fan favorite.  HOWEVER, I don't even care about the gift card.  I don't even really like Starbucks (Ssshhhhhh!  Don't tell!).  But, I like the idea of a deadline and it helps me get a nice little jump start on my resolution of finishing the downstairs before December 31, 2012 - barring the Mayans being right and the end of the world as we know it will occur.  :P

So, where am I today?

A little more sore.  A lot more tired.  And not a whole lot closer.  And now my dining room looks like this:

And it really doesn't even look that good since I've had to dig around in it looking for stuff.  Blech!

I love those people that post about these "little" weekend projects where they completely transform a room.  Where are they hiding their army of worker bees????  Or maybe that's HGTV.  HGTV drives me nuts.  Yeah.  Its sooooooo easy.  Whatever.  :P

I can't lift my arms above my head from the combination of painting with a roller and lifting.  My head feels like a ton of bricks, sitting on my sore neck.  And I am just.  plain.  TIRED.  And I have sooooooo much work ahead of me.  WAAAAAAHHHHH!  (Yes, I am having a pity party.  Wanna join me?)  I probably should have waited for Scott to get home from the tournament yesterday before I talked Greyson into helping me bring in a piece of furniture from the back of the truck:  Down out of the truck.  Over the sidewalk.  Up the stairs.  Fighting to fit it through the doors and into the office.  GAH!  I'm gettin' OLD!

On the bright side (is there one?  Yes, I think there is) the office is primed and holes and cracks are spackled/patched.  Although I'm about to strangle Scott because he STILL hasn't done the top of the room yet, that I can't reach even on a step ladder.  Darn these 10 ft ceilings anyway!  Although he did the bigger patching last night that I primed around.  But I want the walls FINISHED so I can PAINT!  Doesn't he know that I need to get this DONE????  The chaos is spreading to the rest of the house and I do NOT do well with chaos.  It depresses me.  :P  (Yes, I'm whining.)  It had called for rain today on Friday, but the forecast has changed and corralling him to the house with good weather ain't gonna happen.  Love my hubby, but a homebody he ain't.  :P  Darn it.  I'm thinking I'm gonna have to go to the farm and find a ladder.

I did, however, get one project done and am almost done with another.  Yes, both office related.  Here's a sneak peek:

And I bought a little goody at a fantastic place literally 5 minutes from my house.  No more "Mart of Doom"!  See ya, ya non-wanting to sell, thinkin' I'm a liar, hoardery hoard hoarders!  Great prices and fantastic proprietors!  And here's a tiny look at its chippy loveliness:

This was before I cleaned it and that sucker took A LOT of scrubbing.  My arms may be sore from that too.  Scrub-scrubbity-scrub-scrub.  And its pretty large and that was A LOT of really gross scouring.  I think I emptied the bowl I was using 4 times.  Ewwwwww!  But let me assure you...  WELL worth it!  Now, I'm debating painting the inside or at least decoupaging the back with some scrap booking paper.

Sooooooo...  That's pretty much all I did this weekend.  And it looks like its not going to be done until probably the end of the week.  While I get a lot more done with the kiddos in school, I also can't work through the evening because of picking kids up or taking them to practices.  Not to mention dinner, homework, and baths.

I'm tired.  But a good tired.  It means I've done something.  And that's always a good thing, right???

Laura,

Keep your chin up....it sounds like you are making HUGE steps of progress! I would love those 10 ft ceilings and my old arts n crafts home back instead of this ranch home.

If you do when we can go to starbucks and I'll get a latte and you can get a non coffee drink...they do make good non coffee drinks too! No, you don't have to buy mine...I am a Starbucks freak and have their Gold card! lol

The grey chippy piece has me intrigued...can't wait to see what it is.

Good luck with your office redo!
Have a great day.

Hugs,
Natalie

This must be the 'storm before the calm' I call it! Really, though, it will all be worth it in the end. Can't wait to see that! Cheryl

Yay! I'm excited to see it all. Glad you found a better place to shop. Loving the last shelf/cupboard. Can't wait to see the whole thing :)

You accomplished much more than I did! I feel like a loser on this sunny, crisp, Monday morning ;)

Our current 'project' has 12' ceilings downstairs & 11' ceilings upstairs. After working from ladders for over a year, we decided to buy scaffolding. We'd always assumed it was really expensive, but it was around $150 before a $40 rebate @ Menard's. Sooo much easier on the back & knees than working on a ladder, & will come in handy thru the years. I recommend it highly for anyone with 'lofty' dreams! :-)

It's so hard to stay patient, isn't it? I get that way. I know how I want it to look and I wish I could snap my fingers and make it happen! But it will for you!
