Friday's Finds... #02

Believe it or not, its already time for this week's Friday's Finds.

WOW!  Where does the time go?

Today, I'm going to focus on things that I found around the net and around the house.  Its amazing what you can find in your very own home that can be repurposed or changed with a little bit of spray paint.  I find myself looking around and trying to find things that I can still use, just in a different way.

Take this for example:

My Dad had taken this porthole off a ship that was being dismantled.  He had piloted the ship many, many times and wanted something to remember her by.  I found this with all of his stuff out in the garage.  The chippy paint and its aging green patina make this an awesome addition to my mantle.

Or this old yellow glass pitcher...

I rescued this from a garage sale that my mother and her siblings were having after my grandpa died back in 1997.  For many, many years he used this pitcher to mix and store his powdered milk.  I couldn't believe they were getting rid of it!  It makes a lovely vase for my fall flower arrangement.

And here is more repurposed Americana Decor...

These miniature barn stars were originally red, green, and yellow.  Removing the plaid fabric strips and giving them a fresh coat of white spray paint really changed up their look.  They make a wonderful statement on my rustic stick tree that I bought four years ago.  And they look fantastic at night with twinkling lights.

And sometimes you just come across things in everyday life and see them in a new way.  The hubs asked me to help him load up a trailer full of wood this week, as we prepare to begin stocking up for the winter season to heat our home.  Lo and behold, in the wood pile he had set aside for our boiler, was some beautiful white birch. Tanya at Make The Best Of What's Around gave me these awesome ideas when I asked her what I could do with it...

For now, they've found a home on top of the antique potato bin that is currently sitting next to my mantle...

Isn't it marvelous?!  I luh-ove the peeling bark, although I wish I had gotten to it before it sat in his woodpile for a month.  He now has strict orders to bring any birch wood directly home!

You can re-purpose just about anything.  The twine I used to tie the birch wood came with an order from Etsy that I got in the mail yesterday.

I got this nifty prayer book photo frame from La Famille @ home

I love how the fabric embellishment buttons on the back...

I'd been eyeing this find for several weeks on Etsy, as well...

These antique wood spools really caught my eye at Lillys Cottage.
I hemmed and hawed for a couple of weeks before I ordered them.  They really help fill up space on my empty-looking mantle.  And I adore the colors.  The one that looks gray is actually a Sea Foam green.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get the color to show well.

I ordered this fantabulous leather cuff yesterday from Hollyhawk Designs.  I don't have near enough jewelry with trees on them.  Considering that this is how we earn our living, I should really have more that reflects it.  I adore the winter blue leather and hand painted trees.  LOVE!  LOVE!  LOVE!  And can't wait to get it!

Now for a few items that I'm contemplating...

You absolutely must check out these striking black and white photo art from Lettered Cottage!  I am particularly drawn to the starfish, the wooden fence, and the uprooted tree in the surf.  I would love to have these photos for a wall in my living room!

And I am actively seeking burlap to be able to make this darling wall hanging for our office...

I found this way cool repurpose at the funnily enough named, Today's Fabulous Finds.  I already have the perfect vintage window that I salvaged when we were replaced all the windows in our little big house.  I've just got to get my hands on some burlap.

And then there's this...

Corner House Blog

I'm definitely making this for our living room.  The hubs has tons of pallet board that would be perfect for this little project.  Hopefully I can get to it this weekend!

 But first...

This is a quilt that my grandma quilted many, many years ago.  Over the years, it has completely fallen apart and when it came to me it wasn't in the best of shape.  Made out of clothing remnants of my momma's, I would hate for it to further deteriorate.  I've got a few ideas of what I'm going to do with it, I just haven't settled on one yet.  And that's my project for today!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend enjoying their family and friends.  We'll be hitting the football field, as usual and watching our sons on the gridiron.  I hope whatever you do, you live life to fullest and enjoy every second of your wonderful weekend.  Next weekend isn't promised to us.  :)

So many good finds, and I love that old quilt :) The birchwood is so pretty. It looks great just bundled up like you have it. Have fun watching your boys playing football!

Love the pieces of your Dad's memory that you've incorporated into your home and his love for the sea. Forget my earlier suggestion about painting the green chair aqua, as you have other special pieces and touches of green already incorporated into that room that are too special to make it only aqua.
Enjoying your blog.
